The journey begins before sunrise as you leave Kota Kinabalu behind.
As the roads stretch deeper into the interior, the landscape slowly changes—becoming quieter, greener, and more remote.
By mid-morning, you arrive in Nabawan before continuing onward by 4WD into rural river country. From there, the journey shifts again—this time onto water.
A boat carries you deeper into the heart of Murut territory, where a traditional longhouse becomes your home for the night. Life here is simple, communal, and grounded in rhythm shaped by the river.
As evening settles, you share meals and begin your introduction to life in the longhouse.
After breakfast, you head into one of Borneo’s most ancient ecosystems.
The Belian forest stands still and silent—home to ironwood trees that have lived for centuries. Walking among them feels like stepping into a different timeline entirely.
You return to the longhouse for lunch, surrounded by the sounds of daily village life.
In the afternoon, the journey continues by boat to a campsite area along the river—another perspective of this vast landscape.
As night falls, the community gathers. Traditional Murut dance and cultural sharing bring the day to a close— not as performance, but as living expression of identity and heritage.
After breakfast, you check out and begin the journey back.
By boat, you travel toward Pensiangan—a place tied deeply to Murut resistance and history.
Here, you visit memorial sites connected to Antanom and early movements of indigenous resistance, a quiet but powerful reminder of the region’s past.
From there, the journey continues by road back to Nabawan, and finally returns to Kota Kinabalu.
