ON THE MOVE (E-HAILING SERVICES)
Covers mostly in Malaysia, especially in cities/town areas.
- E-hailing Apps: From the Google Playstore, you can download Grab for a hassle-free way to get around urban and suburban areas in Malaysia. We use to have UBER but they no longer serve Malaysia’s market. There are also e-hailing like Maxim, In-driver, My Ride, EZCab, Mula and Riding In Pink (for female, but limited drivers) to try.
- Rent a Car: For the ultimate freedom, rent a car and set your own itinerary. Malaysian roads are generally well-maintained and driving is relatively straightforward. Except for Sabah & Sarawak, roads in certain locations may be challenging to navigate for some.
- Cycling: For some parts of Malaysia, renting a bicycle or motorbike can be a delightful way to explore at a leisurely pace.

- Sarawak Trains: None at this moment.

It is important to know that due Sabah & Sarawak geographical differences than West Malaysia, logistics are not as established yet. Most rely on private transport and mini vans as a mean of transport as its easier to go in & out of rural areas.

For Sabah & Sarawak, you may find these busses congregates in a scattered but specific places MOSTLY in town areas. Please ask the locals to direct you.

OTHER OPTIONS (Mode of travel):
- You may rent a car (some airports have kiosks you can approach to rent the car from) or Google (contact the business owner direct) to book in advance.
- Engage licensed driver & guide. But BEWARE of too good to be true (very cheap) rates! They could be an unlicensed drivers. In Malaysia its an offense to engage transportation for tourists if one is not licensed by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. On this note, you may be wondering, will hitch hiking works in Malaysia? The answer is NO and we do not recommend this at all. And for good reasons, this keeps you safe too.
Last but not least, just some thoughtful tips from us at Helolokal to make your journey pleasant!
- Simple Etiquette: Always greet your driver or conductor with a smile, a “Hello” and a “Terima kasih” (Thank you)!
- Explore Local Flavors: Make pit stops at roadside stalls for delectable treats like satay, nasi lemak, and cendol.
Embark on your Malaysian journey with confidence and curiosity – the rich tapestry of Malaysia awaits your discovery. Happy travels!
